Hello and welcome to damppebbles. It’s day twelve of 2019’s #R3COMM3ND3D and I have another trio of brilliant books to share with you. I can’t take any of the credit though as that all goes to today’s guest. I am delighted to welcome a favourite blogger of mine to share the book love with us – the lovely Jo of Jo’s Book Blog. Jo’s blog is superb so if you haven’t discovered it yet, what are you waiting for?

So, what is #R3COMM3ND3D2019? It’s about sharing the book love. It’s a chance for authors and book bloggers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2019. To make things interesting I have added a couple of teeny, tiny rules this year which are; 1) the book must have first been published in 2019 and 2) special editions and reissues do not count. I like to keep you lovely people on your toes 😉.

Let’s find out which three books Jo recommends…

Blood & Sugar by Laura Shepherd-Robinson
Blood & Sugar is a fantastic work of historical fiction and a cleverly plotted mystery, set at a time when slavery was rife in Britain. Brilliantly researched, this is a fantastic novel to get lost in, despite some of the darker themes.

Last Ones Left Alive by Sarah Davis-Goff
Last Ones Left Alive is a fantastically bleak post-apocalyptic novel with a strong female cast. I thought that the world-building was up there with the very best, and I loved every page as the reader follows Orpen in her quest while trying to avoid the zombie-esque skrakes that now roam Ireland.

The Binding by Bridget Collins
The Binding is a book about books (need I say more?!), but in this world, books hold the memories that people would rather forget. It’s a brilliant and original concept, and so well-delivered – by the end of the novel, I felt sad to leave this world behind!

Thanks so much, Jo. Twelve days in and we have a leader! This is the second time The Binding has made an appearance on #R3COMM3ND3D2019. Could this be the top pick of the year? We’ll have to wait and see. I already have The Binding and Blood & Sugar on my wish list but I’ll definitely be adding Last Ones Left Alive which sounds incredible!
