Hello my bookish lovelies and welcome to Friday on damppebbles. Not just any old Friday though. Black Friday where there are discounts galore to be had. But let’s face it, are we really interested in anything other than books and bookish merch…? No, probably not 🤣. If you are out and about today scouring the shops for a bargain then I hope your day is successful. Personally I’m hoping to bag a new eReader, which I think counts! (Always back to the books.)

It’s day twenty-four of #R3COMM3ND3D2023, hoorah! So far we’ve had sixty-six brilliant books recommended with not one, not two, but three titles receiving more than one vote. Those three are The Good Liars by Anita Frank, All of Us Are Broken by Fiona Cummins and our newest addition from yesterday, None of This is True by Lisa Jewell. Will the rankings stay the same after today or will a fourth book be joining the higher echelons of #R3COMM3ND3D2023?

Today I am delighted to welcome a fantastic bookstagrammer to damppebbles to talk about three top notch titles published this year, it’s the fabulous Deb of dds_book_reviews. I’m such a fan of Deb’s instagram feed and always find new book recommendations there. We have similar reading tastes so there’s always something new and interesting to see. If you don’t already follow Deb then you know what to do!

So, what is #R3COMM3ND3D2023? It’s about sharing the book love. It’s a chance for authors, book bloggers, reviewers and bookstagrammers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2023. To make things interesting there are a couple of teeny, tiny rules; 1) the book must have FIRST been published in 2023 and 2) special editions and reissues do not count. See, it wasn’t too painful. I just like to keep you lovely people on your toes 😉

Here are the three books Deb recommends…

A Womb With A View by Mark Tilbury
I love Mark’s books & he deservedly has the moniker Twisted Tilbury but this book was very different. A good basic story but interspersed with such comedic passages that it would’ve been a crime not to include it.
Deb’s Review of A Womb With A View

The Space Between Us by Doug Johnstone
I adore the Skelf series by this author but this takes a very different direction. I don’t do sci-fi but this book is so much more & I’m thrilled that we will be seeing Sandy again.
Deb’s Review of The Space Between Us

Killing Jericho by William Hussey
The cover of the hardback was enough to draw me in. A fabulous tale set on the periphery of the travelling community but drawing on so much more. I can’t wait for the next one & see how the author will hook me once more.
Deb’s Review of Killing Jericho

Thank you so much, Deb. Three cracking titles. And this is the second time we’ve seen Killing Jericho which puts it in joint first place with The Good Liars, All of Us Are Broken and None of This is True. Things are really heating up!

About Deb:
I’ve always been an avid reader particularly crime & thrillers but when I left teaching about 3 years ago I looked at taking that love further. I took a qualification in proofreading & editing launching my FB review group & my reviews upon the world. I do have a life outside of books which includes an allotment, theatre trips & concert going. I live between Bristol & Bath with my husband & two grown-up children.

#R3COMM3ND3D will only run for the month of November this year so places are very limited. If you would like to take part in #R3C this year (and I would LOVE you to!) then please get your three choices in ASAP. If I’m unable to fill all 30 dates then any posts scheduled for the end of November will be brought forward and I will close the series early (but I don’t want to do that, it sounds miserable! 😂). Here are two different versions of the form if you fancy taking part.

If you’re a book blogger, bookstagrammer, reviewer or an author and you have three books published this year which you want to shout about then please complete the following form (or click this link: https://forms.gle/d6HbMLZJjEtUSm8FA)
