Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at dp. My original plan was to participate as and when I had the time to put a post together. That then turned into posting ‘weekly without fail’ until I was forced to take a break following surgery to both shoulders (that recovery happened to coincide with a complete and utter loss of reading and blogging mojo 🤷🏻♀️). But now I’m back and I’m going to take a much more chilled approach to all things bookish. Which means TTT will return to being a regular feature on damppebbles but a ‘no pressure’ one (that’s the plan anyway!).
The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. This week’s theme is: Oldest (aka Earliest Published) Books On My TBR and was submitted by Nicole @ BookWyrm Knits. This is a tough one for me. I’ve been reading (and collecting) books for years. I have hundreds of books on shelves around the house. They’re stored in the attic. There’s currently a large pile of books sitting in our spare room aka ‘The Office’. And then there’s my Kindle. I’ve had a Kindle since 2011 (a late bloomer!). I’ve been downloading books since then, or rather ‘amassing them’. Because that’s what us bookworms do. You can never have enough books, you’ll never read them all – that’s for sure – but still you download and buy all the books that take your fancy. So with this theme I’m going to hang everything on the following few words ‘On My TBR’. Which I interpret as ‘the next few months’. Dear Reader, you are about to be introduced to my NetGalley shelf. Taddah! I could try and find my earliest book purchases that are still ‘to be read’ but that’s a rabbit hole I’m not prepared to go down! Yes, I’m a coward. And I can live with that! 😂

I’ve run out of NetGalley books by this point so this is another book on my TBR that I’m keen to get to ASAP. I met the author earlier this year and heard her speak about her novels which are based on her mother’s time as a WPC in Berkshire in the early 1950’s!

Another cobbled together list that doesn’t really fit the theme but I’m running with it! Perhaps I should have renamed this post ‘My NetGalley shelf and one book I feel quite guilty about not reading yet!’ as I’m not sure I can have future dates on an ‘oldest/earliest published list’….? And I do feel the need to say that my NG shelf usually doesn’t have more than five ‘to be read’ books on it but the whole shoulder debacle and loss of reading mojo has really slowed things down this year (hasn’t stopped me requesting new books though, has it?!!). Look out for reviews of all of these books coming to damppebbles in the future.

I relied on Goodreads to come up with my list and I know I haven’t got every unread book I own on my Goodreads To-Read shelf. A task for a rainy day to add them, I think. Also, Goodreads isn’t always very accurate with publication dates.

I need to start recording my TBR books on Goodreads rather than just the ‘read’ ones! Or start using the StoryGraph which I’ve heard is more reliable than Goodreads.

Ouch! Shoulder surgery on both shoulders? I had my shoulder operated on in May and it was a tough recovery because it was my dominant arm. But I’m glad to see that you’ve recovered your reading and reviewing mojo! I’m not familiar with any of these, but I hope you enjoy all of them!

I was doing great with the recovery, and then fainted and hurt my shoulder again. This poor shoulder of mine can’t catch a break.

Yes, working on it. Between cortisone shots and physical therapy, it’s helping a lot.

One of the problems for me with amassing books on my Kindle vs. on my bookshelves is that I don’t pay any attention to how many books I actually already have on my Kindle. I can see my physical bookshelves overflowing, which cues me to back off on the book buying until I’ve emptied them out a little, but since there’s almost infinite room on my Kindle, I just keep stacking up the e-books even though I already have more than I could ever possibly read even in several lifetimes. The struggle is real!
I enjoy mystery/thriller books, so I’ll have to take a closer look at some of these. I did enjoy THE GOD OF THE WOODS for the most part.

I have the same problem (although my husband would argue seeing the physical bookcases overflow doesn’t stop me from buying any more books!). I probably add 5 or so books to my Kindle every week 🙈 Thanks for sharing your TTT link.

LOL. I love how your list of “oldest” books includes books that aren’t even released yet! But you’re absolutely right about the On your TBR part of the prompt…Because I genuinely intend to read every book I own (even though it’s physically impossible) the old books on my shelves counted for the prompt…but I think your list is really more true to the real idea for the prompt. I hope you have a great week.

I know 🙈 Totally cheating really. But I honestly wouldn’t know where to start! I have great admiration for anyone who is organised enough to know exactly what is on their TBR and when it was published.
