#TopTenTuesday | 25th November 2025: Childhood Favourites #Top10Tuesday #bookblogger #bookish #amreading #TTT #BookTwitter #booktwt #BookSky #damppebbles

Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at damppebbles. Add a little bit of variety to our bookish weeks.

The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. Just make sure you link back to Jana’s post every week. If you don’t have a blog, then no problem, just add your list to the comments below.

This week’s theme is Thanksgiving/Thankful Freebie. I’m in the UK and we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here so I’m going to take this week’s theme in a different direction. This seems the perfect opportunity however to wish everyone in the US a very happy Thanksgiving. I hope you have a wonderful day on Thursday, surrounded by the things you love the most.

This week I will be sharing some of my Childhood Favourites with you. I’ve always been an avid reader and books, for as long as I can remember, have played a huge part in my life. One of my favourite memories is visiting what was then our local library with my mum on a regular basis. The library was tiny in size but it felt like a treasure trove of stories and adventures to me. I revisited that library recently and was amazed by how small it actually is! And, I still get a thrill when I say, I now work for the same library service (different branch, much bigger building and lots more books (!) but still the same region 🥰)

1. Sweet Valley Twins created by Francine Pascal

2. Sweet Valley High created by Francine Pascal
I know it’s cheating but these books (twins and high) played such a huge part of my tween and teenage years.

3. The Babysitter’s Club by Ann M. Martin
This series should come as no surprise, based on what I’ve included on this list so far!

4. The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy
I so wanted to be Mildred Hubble!

5. Point Horror Series
My love of dark fiction had to start somewhere and I largely blame this series!

6. Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret by Judy Blume
A right of passage for the girls in my year at school! Were we the only ones?

7. The Discworld Series by Sir Terry Pratchett
Don’t listen to me when I tell you I’ve never read a fantasy novel! It’s not true. I’ve read quite a few of this series.

8. Topsy and Tim by Jean and Gareth Adamson
Going waaaaaay back with this one. I was so happy when my children started to love the more recent, updated books too!

9. Please Mrs Butler by Allan Ahlberg
Poetry. Now there’s something I’ve never featured on the blog before!

10. Matilda by Roald Dahl
Did you think I was going to end this list without a single Roald Dahl book appearing? Of course I wasn’t. My favourite of his books.

Some very happy memories here. I’ve tried to include the covers I remember from the 1980s. How dated do they look? 😬 Some great books here though. Have you read any? What’s the book you remember the most from your childhood? Are you taking part in Top Ten Tuesday this week? Let me know in the comments.

So there we have it! If you fancy joining in next week then head on over to That Artsy Reader Girl’s blog to find out what the next topic is!

  1. Thanks for the Thanksgiving well wishes. I’ll be gathering with friends and family both on Thursday for Thanksgiving dinner and then on Friday for a game night and leftover pie (we ALWAYS buy/make too much pie). It should be lovely.

What a nostalgic list! I loved the Sweet Valley High books when I was a kid. Like you, my town had a teensy tiny library that I went to all the time. I was thrilled when I got my driver’s license because I could drive myself to a nearby town that had a bigger library (although it still wasn’t very big). One of the things I’m grateful for now is that I live in a large suburb, where I can take advantage of two big library systems. No matter what book I’m looking for, I can pretty much get it from my library, which is such a great thing 🙂

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  2. Great post, Emma. I love thinking about books I read as a child. I loved the Pippi Longstocking and Beverly Cleary books when I was young. I was also a fan of the Happy Hollisters and the Bobbsey Twins.
