#TopTenTuesday | 2nd December 2025: Books I’d Like to Read That Are Outside My Comfort Zone #Top10Tuesday #bookblogger #bookish #amreading #TTT #BookTwitter #booktwt #BookSky #damppebbles

Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at damppebbles. Add a little bit of variety to our bookish weeks.

The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. Just make sure you link back to Jana’s post every week. If you don’t have a blog, then no problem, just add your list to the comments below.

This week’s theme is a Freebie. I missed a couple of weeks of Top Ten Tuesday at the start of November so I’m playing catch up. This week I will be talking about Books I’d Like to Read That Are Outside My Comfort Zone. I’m quite specific in my book choices. I read crime/mysteries, psychological thrillers and horror. The darker stuff. So truth be told, I don’t pay a lot of attention to books outside of those genres. But there are books I see every so often and think, ‘would I enjoy that?’ Just for clarities sake, I have read non-crime books before. Here’s an example. It just doesn’t happen very often. Let’s see how I get on…

1. Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver
Okay, not all that different. BUT I believe this is classed as dark romance and that just ain’t me! I don’t tend to read romance and I don’t read spicy fiction. A fellow blogger put this warning on Goodreads – WARNING : GRATUIOUS & GRAPHIC VIOLENCE: GRATUIOUS & GRAPHIC SEX – which makes me think this book is definitely out of my comfort zone.

2. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
This book was everywhere. And the two sequels were everywhere. It’s hard to ignore the hype sometimes and stick to what you know 🤭

3. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This or any of TJR’s other books really.

4. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
I just feel I would really like this book. I think I’d like the movie too. Must watch it soon!

5. The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

6. The Names by Florence Knapp
Something keeps pulling me back to this book. I think I may download it on audio next time I have a spare credit.

7. The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore
I love these covers. They’re so cute. They really make me want to read the books.

8. Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage
Gosh, there’s a lot of romance on this list! (Especially for someone who doesn’t normally like any kind of romance in their books!!) I actually own a copy of this book on my Kindle. I will get around to reading it soon!

9. Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
Here we go, a spot of fantasy. I know, I know. Also romance, let’s not forget the fantasy!!

10. The Poppy Fields by Nikki Erlick
I loved the audiobook version of The Measure so despite this not being my usual style of book, I am very keen to read it.

There we have it! Ten fabulous looking and sounding books that aren’t my usual type of read but I wouldn’t mind giving them a go. Have you read any? What’s the number one book outside of your comfort zone that you would like to read? Are you taking part in Top Ten Tuesday this week? Let me know in the comments.

So there we have it! If you fancy joining in next week then head on over to That Artsy Reader Girl’s blog to find out what the next topic is!

  1. A Man Called Ove is one of my all time favourites. I watched the Swedish movie with subtitles and really liked it, then the Tom Hanks version. They did a pretty good job with it. I hope you try some of these. I am an eclectic reader, so there aren’t too many books out of my comfort zone.
