#R3COMM3ND3D2021 The After Show Party #BookBlogger #Author #Bookstagram #writingcommunity #bookcommunity #Publishedin2021 #MustReadBooks #booktwt #WhatToRead #damppebbles #BookRecommendations #amreading #amreviewing

Hello bookish friends and welcome to the social highlight of the year (🤔), the #R3COMM3ND3D2021 after show party! The annual-ish recap of everything #R3COMM3ND3D where we get to gaze fondly upon the books that were chosen by forty-eight brilliant bookish types (plus me) and announce the winner or…*audible gasp*…winners!

Of course, if you’re new to the blog you may be wondering what #R3COMM3ND3D is, so allow me to explain. It’s about sharing the book love. It’s a chance for authors, book bloggers and bookstagrammers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2021.

Waaaaaay back at the start of November book blogger Nicki of Nicki’s Life of Crime kicked things off for us with three cracking recommendations. By the time the feature finished on 23rd December fifty-three days had passed and forty-eight brilliant bookish folk (plus me) had recommended the grand total of 130 books. One hundred and thirty book recommendations is pretty epic, right? And all just in time for Christmas 🎅

So, let’s gaze upon the beautiful #R3COMM3ND3D2021 covers in all their splendiferous glory. Aren’t they gorgeous?!

A thing of beauty, I’m sure you’ll agree! If you took part in #R3COMM3ND3D2021 and the book(s) you chose aren’t here then please get in touch.

But let’s talk winners and find out what the most #R3COMM3ND3D book, or books, of 2021 were. There were seven books with two votes each. They were…

Two books received three votes each…

And two books received four votes each making them joint winners of #R3COMM3ND3D2021…

Huge congratulations to Will Dean (Hodder & Stoughton) and Catriona Ward (Viper Books) for having the most #R3COMM3ND3D books of the year 🎉 One of these beauties I’ve read, the other is going straight to the top of the reading pile. Have you read either of these cracking novels? What about the other top books of the year? How many do you have on your TBR?

The biggest of thanks to all of the book bloggers, bookstagrammers and authors who took part in #R3COMM3ND3D2021 and whittled their favourite reads down to three (an impossible task, I know!). Thank you for all of the likes, retweets, shares and comments – every single one is always appreciated.

#R3COMM3ND3D may be taking a short break next year (I’m undecided at the moment – I honestly can’t imagine not running it and get a little panicky when I think about it!) but hopefully it won’t be for long if it does. Enormous thanks again for the support this year, book community. You absolutely rock!

Hello and welcome to Tuesday on damppebbles. It is, of course, lovely to see you. Whether this is the first time you’ve found damppebbles or whether you’re a regular visitor, it’s good to have you along for some bookish chat today. It’s day 35 of #R3COMM3ND3D2021 and we’re well into the swing of this year’s feature. So far we’ve had some cracking books recommended, and the good news is – there’s still more to come! So stay tuned to see if your favourite 2021 publication gets a mention.

Last week I spoke about my recent return to instagram/bookstagram and how a number of well established bookstagrammers welcomed me into their community and gave me help and advice. Today I am delighted to welcome another fantastic bookstagrammer who has supported me no end since my return. It’s the fabulous Zoebeesbooks. Make sure you check out Zoebeesbooks’ feed as it’s gorgeous and you won’t regret it.

They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2021. To make things interesting there are a couple of teeny, tiny rules; 1) the book must have FIRST been published in 2021 and 2) special editions and reissues do not count. I like to keep you lovely people on your toes 😉

Here are the three books Zoebeesbooks recommends…

The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle by Matt Cain
This is my favourite book of the year. The minute I met Albert, I just felt so much love for him, the most adorable character I have come across in a book. I smiled and laughed all the way through with tears along the way. I think since the pandemic, times have been tough for people one way or another so this was such a delight to read as it was the biggest heart warmer I’ve read. When I finished I felt I was saying goodbye to a friend.
Zoebeesbooks’ Review of The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle

No Honour by Awais Khan
This is one of the most powerful books I have read and is phenomenal. About honour crimes, the first chapter is so hard hitting and tragic you want to look away but you can’t. I don’t think I could give the justice this book it deserves but I do think it is so worthy of a lot of accolades for the sublime writing and moving story of a plight that affects women and men (but predominantly women) in society.
Zoebeesbooks’ Review of No Honour

The Last Thing to Burn by Will Dean
I’m picking this as it is such an incredible thriller, I couldn’t put it down, it wasn’t predictable and just had something unique to other thrillers I have read.
Zoebeesbooks’ Review of The Last Thing to Burn

Thanks so much, three terrific choices. This is the second time we’ve seen The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle by Matt Cain, the third time we’ve seen No Honour by Awais Khan and the fourth time we’ve seen The Last Thing to Burn by Will Dean which puts it in joint first place with The Last House on Needless Street. Things are really hotting up in the race to be top #R3COMM3ND3D book of 2021!

= 1st The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward
= 1st The Last Thing to Burn by Will Dean
2nd No Honour by Awais Khan
= 3rd This is How We Are Human by Louise Beech
= 3rd The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle by Matt Cain
= 3rd When the World Was Ours by Liz Kessler

About Zoebeesbooks:
I am married with 2 grown up children and 1 granddaughter and have always loved reading from a young age. I have very fond memories of going to the library every week with my grandma who was my biggest influencer at the time with books and it’s lovely to be able to share a love of books with my own granddaughter. I fell into book Twitter / Bookstagram by mistake, I was recovering from Covid from February and I entered a couple of giveaways) then saw all these book people and I was gobsmacked at how big and supportive the book community is. My accounts have just built from there. I used to just read thrillers but I love so many genres now and I have discovered so many authors that are new to me and might never have discovered if it wasn’t for the book community.

Sadly submissions for #R3COMM3D3D2021 are now closed (posts will be running until mid-December so we’re not quite done yet). Shortly after the last post I will be inviting you all to attend the virtual after-show party, which should be a giggle, where we can cast our eyes over the marvellous and majestic beauty of 2021’s books. We will also crown 2021’s winner (or joint winners, if that’s the case ). So I expect it to be a jolly good ol’ knees up! Until then stay tuned as we have lots more bookish loveliness heading your way ❤

Hello and welcome to damppebbles. Happy December! I can’t quite understand where this year has gone. I mean, HOW is it December already?! Not only is it the 1st of December it’s also day 29 of #R3COMM3ND3D2021 and I have another two and a half weeks of bookish delights still to share with you. Don’t forget though, if you’re keen to take part in #R3COMM3ND3D2021 you need to fill in the form at the bottom of this post BEFORE midday today (that’s UK time, GMT). Don’t delay, get your three books submitted before it’s too late!

Joining me today is a fabulous bookstagrammer who I heartily recommend you give a follow to, if you don’t already. It’s the brilliant Dee of chapter1.page1. I decided to put a little more effort into my booksta feed earlier this year (if you check it out you’ll wonder where the effort is, I can promise you 😂) so reached out for some advice. Dee immediately offered help and support and I am so grateful to have made that connection 🙏. Dee’s bookstagram feed is gorgeous. And Dave is the star of the show. Make sure you give them both a follow.

So, what is #R3COMM3ND3D2021? It’s about sharing the book love. It’s a chance for authors, book bloggers and bookstagrammers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. As this is the fifth year of #R3C, things are going to be a smidge different this year. There’s a scary deadline involved *shudder*. The #R3COMM3ND3D application form will only be open until midday (GMT) on Wednesday 1st December. If you would like to take part in #R3C this year (and I would LOVE you to!) then please get your three choices in sooner rather than later. Any posts scheduled for later in December will be brought forward and I will close the series early if I’m not able to fill all of the available dates. The form is at the bottom of this post if you fancy taking part.

Here are the three books Dee recommends…

The Funny Thing about Norman Foreman by Julietta Henderson
I loved everything about it.
Dee’s Review of The Funny Thing about Norman Foreman

The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle by Matt Cain
It’s just so heartwarming.
Dee’s Review of The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle

The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward
The best thriller of 2021.
Dee’s Review of The Last House on Needless Street

Thanks so much, Dee. Three cracking choices. And this is the fourth time we’ve seen The Last House on Needless Street which puts it in the lead. The Last Thing to Burn by Will Dean is hot on its heels, with No Honour by Awais Khan and This is How We Are Human by Louise Beech close behind!

I can’t believe it! It’s nearly here! #R3COMM3ND3D20201 starts on Monday and I’m giddy with excitement. If you missed my post at the start of the month then please read on to find out what it’s all about and for the form. There’s still space available but you only have until midday (GMT) on 1st December to submit your three books, eek!

Hello bookish friends and a very happy Friday to you. I don’t have a review to share with you today but I do have some exciting news, which probably won’t come as a massive surprise if you’ve been following damppebbles over the last few years!

#R3COMM3ND3D IS BACK!

Woohoo! Because I flipping love it and, from the feedback I’ve had, you rather like it too! #R3COMM3ND3D (in the form of #R3COMM3ND3D2021) will start on 1st November! And, here’s the big news….#R3COMM3ND3D is FIVE years old this year 🥳. Reason enough to take part, I think, if you’ve never participated before!

If you’re new to damppebbles then allow me to explain what #R3COMM3ND3D is all about.

#R3COMM3ND3D is where I ask book bloggers, bookstagrammers and published authors to recommend three ‘must read’ books the rest of us should really make a point of picking up. Three titles you love and want to shout about. They don’t have to be your top three books of the year – just three books that have knocked your socks off and you think others will enjoy. Any author, any genre, traditionally, indie or self-published. Sounds easy, right? There is one catch – they must have been published in 2021 (and I will check!). There are a few other teeny tiny rules (such as reissues and special editions don’t count, authors CAN’T recommend their own books etc but we’ll gloss over that for now…).

The feature will run from 1st November until 30th December, excluding 24th, 25th and 26th December. All other dates are up for grabs. And if there is a specific date you would like then you only have to say and I will do my best to accommodate it. I’m more than happy to schedule your #R3COMM3ND3D for a date to coincide with a book release, a special promotion or an anniversary/blogiversary. And if you’re a published author, I always include information about your latest book in the post too (here’s an example).

There are 57 slots available and I hope to be able to fill them all. However, unlike in previous years, I have decided to put a definitive end date on the sign-up form. The form will close at midday (GMT) on Wednesday 1st December. If I haven’t been able to fill all 57 dates and you’ve selected a later date then I’m afraid I will bring your #R3COMM3ND3D forward and conclude the 2021 series early. Hopefully it won’t come to that. Hopefully all 57 dates will be snapped up 🤞

Tempted? Go on, you know you want to 😉. If you would like to take part then all you have to do is fill in the form below with as much information as possible. Really sell the books to us, make us want to read them too.

A final plea before I sign off. Please, please, please, please check the publication date of all formats on all three of your books before submitting your form. Often the hardback, audio and digital editions are published a full year before the paperback makes an appearance. I love #R3COMM3ND3D but it takes a long time to set each post up. If I then have to contact people and ask them to change one or more of their books, it takes even longer. I hope you understand why I’m asking you to be 100% sure this year.

I know the embedded form doesn’t work for everyone so if that’s you, here’s a helpful link (which shouldn’t cause any problems): https://forms.gle/UqFYws11pWdGHA7n8

I am super excited about this year’s #R3C and I can’t wait to see what you pick!
