“You’ll never be out of Harm’s way
The young girl who causes the fatal car crash disappears from the scene.
A runaway who doesn’t want to be found, she only wants to go home.
To the one man who understands her.
Gives her shelter.
Just as he gives shelter to the other lost girls who live in his house.
He’s the head of her new family.
He’s Harm.
D.I. Marnie Rome has faced many dangerous criminals but she has never come up against a man like Harm. She thinks that she knows families, their secrets and their fault lines. But as she begins investigating the girl’s disappearance nothing can prepare her for what she’s about to face.
Because when Harm’s family is threatened, everything tastes like fear…”
Superb! This is the third book in the DI Marnie Rome series and it is by far the best. Sarah Hilary has really hit her stride producing the most compelling characters in the most perfect of settings. A truly gripping story which will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Young homeless girls are being taken from the streets of London. But who cares? They’re only runaways after all. That is until May goes missing. May has loving parents and a doting sister and that’s when DI Rome and her team are called in to help return May to her family.
What no one else knows is that May is happy. May has a new home and a new family; living with Harm and his other chosen girls. Everything is calm, everything is the same, everything is safe. Until May makes the worst of mistakes….
Twists and turns come flying at you as you are drawn deeper into the story. You think you’re getting to grips with where the book is heading, but you’re probably not! Not really.
Marnie’s dark past makes an appearance (but Marnie wouldn’t be Marnie without Stephen Keele near by!). Something has changed though and I’m fascinated to see where Sarah Hilary is going to take them as the series progresses.
Full to the brim with shocks and surprises. I found it very difficult to put this book down. When I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about the characters and wondering what was going to happen next. Absolutely stunning work!
Five out of five stars.
