Happy Sunday bookish friends. The warmest of welcomes to day 36 of #R3COMM3ND3D2020. Today I am delighted to welcome one of my favourite bloggers to share their three #R3COMM3ND3D2020 picks with us – it’s David of Scintilla. David runs Scintilla with his wife, Maria, and I have to tell you, they work their socks off for books. I am always impressed with their thoughtful, intelligent and considered reviews. I heartily recommend you give them a follow if you don’t already. You won’t regret it!
So, what is #R3COMM3ND3D2020? It’s about sharing the book love. It’s a chance for authors, book bloggers and bookstagrammers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2020. To make things interesting I have added a couple of teeny, tiny rules this year which are; 1) the book must have first been published in 2020 and 2) special editions and reissues do not count. I like to keep you lovely people on your toes. 😉
Here are David’s three #R3COMM3ND3D2020 picks…
The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai
This book is extraordinary in so many ways. Beautifully written prose, compelling story, wonderful characters, realistic portrayal of the lives impacted by war.
David’s Review of When the Mountains Sing
Fathoms by Rebecca Giggs
A surprisingly personal account of the relationship between humans and whales. Often brutal and wrenching, yet lyrically told and engaging.
David’s Review of Fathoms
Tricks of Light by Thaddeus Rutkowski
This is a book of poems, some semi-autobiographical, many with ironic and amusing twists, and all of them with warmth and depth and insight and beauty.
David’s Review of Tricks of Light
Three really interesting choices, David. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
