Hello and welcome to Wednesday on damppebbles. Yes, it’s the middle of the week *boo* but we’re one step closer than we were to the weekend *yay*! As well as being Wednesday it’s also day 9 of 2022’s #R3COMM3ND3D, which is exciting in itself I feel. We’re twenty-four unique book recommendations in and what beauties they are. But we’re not stopping at twenty-four, oh no!
Joining me to add to the book tally today is a brilliant blogger you absolutely must follow. I’m not normally so bossy in my intros but subscribing to Emily Quinn’s blog, A Quintillion Words, will be the best bookish thing you do this year. Emily’s blog is a work of art. The time and care she takes over her reviews is something very special indeed. If you don’t believe me, check it out!
Before we get down to the nitty gritty, just a quick reminder that the closing date to submit your three #R3COMM3ND3D2022 picks is this coming Thursday, 10th November at midday GMT. If you would like to take part this year – and there are still dates available – please complete the form before 12pm on Thursday.
So, what is #R3COMM3ND3D2022? Itโs about sharing the book love. Itโs a chance for authors, book bloggers, reviewers and bookstagrammers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2022. To make things interesting there are a couple of teeny, tiny rules; 1) the book must have FIRST been published in 2022 and 2) special editions and reissues do not count. I like to keep you lovely people on your toes ๐
This is the sixth year of #R3C so things are going to be a smidge different this year. Like last year, there’s a scary deadline involved *shudder*. Unlike last year’s form which closed in December, this year’s form will close A LOT EARLIER. The #R3COMM3ND3D application form will only be open until midday (GMT) on Thursday 10th November. If you would like to take part in #R3C this year (and I would LOVE you to!) then please get your three choices in sooner rather than later. Any posts scheduled for later in November will be brought forward and I will close the series early if I’m not able to fill all of the available dates. The form is at the bottom of this post if you fancy taking part.
Here are the three books Emily recommends…
Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister
Itโs hard to write something thatโs never been done. Time travel has been done before, but not like this. Itโs something completely and utterly original and I donโt think Iโll stop talking about itโฆ ever!
Wrong Place Wrong Time is easily my book of the year. Gillian has taken a risk, a huge leap in the creation of this book which is so unlike her others. But itโs a risk that had absolutely paid off; I have never read anything quite like this before and Iโm still buzzing from such a thrilling story of time loops, the power of love in so many forms and of just how much it felt like a big puzzle we had to solve alongside Jen. I donโt think Iโve ever loved a character as much as I loved her, and joining her on this mission to find the truth and right some wrongs has been one of the most exhilarating rides of my life. A true gem of a book. Something I will never forget!

Nasty Little Cuts by Tina Baker
This book left me with the biggest book hangover Iโve ever had. Tinaโs stunning words and keen eye for detail combined with that dark, gripping hold she somehow has over her readers has created an absolute masterpiece of a book. Itโs horrifying, twisted to itโs core, but itโs also an addictive and unforgettable ride. Her characters are brought to life by killer description and solid dialogue, and that ending? I donโt even think it will ever leave my brain! I loved loved loved this book!

Blue Haven by Lisa King
This book deserves an award! Or 5! Itโs a twisty page turner that you simply wonโt be able to stop thinking about. Itโs bursting at the seams with suspense, itโs surprisingly deep, and it completely took over my brain space for a good few weeks! I loved the balance of the joyful elements and the hidden darkness underneath it all, and itโs immediately clear just how much work went into creating this unforgettable book. Itโs incredibly thought provoking, especially the exploration of mental health and its damaging effects, and the scary yet fascinating things technology COULD achieve one day is written so so well. I canโt fault a single part of it.

Thank you so much, Emily. Three cracking choices – one of which I’ve read and I absolutely ADORE to the point it would probably feature on my own #R3COMM3ND3D2022 list. The other two I’ll definitely be reading as soon as possible as they sound so good!
About Emily Quinn:
Emily is a book reviewer who loves to support the indie author community. When sheโs not reading, she *tries* to find the time to write herself, but is often distracted by her energetic Golden Retriever or by playing video games!
