Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to damppebbles on this chilly November day. I hope you’re having a book-filled week so far, despite the fact it’s only Tuesday! It’s also day 22 of #R3COMM3ND3D2022 which is rather marvellous. Thanks to #R3C22 we’ve so far had 61 brilliant individual book recommendations across a wide range of genres. Something for everyone, I hope you’ll agree! If you missed any posts and would like a bit of a recap (or if you have a few minutes spare and would just like to gaze upon their loveliness once again) then please click HERE.

Joining me on damppebbles today to chat about three of their favourite 2022 books is bestselling author and all-round lovely person, Rachel Sargeant. Rachel has recently published the first book in a new suspense series under the pen name of Rae Sargeant and I, for one, cannot wait to read it! If you’re as excited as me to get hold of a copy then scroll on down to the end of this post where you will find everything you need. Make sure you scroll back up again though 😂 Rachel is also the author of The Perfect NeighboursThe Good TeacherThe Roommates and Gallipoli: Year of Love and Duty as well as contributing to several anthologies.

So, what is #R3COMM3ND3D2022? It’s about sharing the book love. It’s a chance for authors, book bloggers, reviewers and bookstagrammers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2022. To make things interesting there are a couple of teeny, tiny rules; 1) the book must have FIRST been published in 2022 and 2) special editions and reissues do not count. I like to keep you lovely people on your toes 😉

Here are the three books Rachel recommends…

WAKE by Shelley Burr
There’s not a word out of place here. The author captures the voices of her two protagonists perfectly and conveys the atmosphere of the isolated farms and towns of the Australian Outback very well.
Rachel’s Review of WAKE

The Last Party (DC Morgan #1) by Clare Mackintosh
A great plot with a fully fleshed out supporting cast and dynamic culture-clash duo at the helm. There’s humour, pace and a vividly drawn setting. It’s good to see Wales, where I used to live, looking so glitzy.
Rachel’s Review of The Last Party

One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke
A great spin on the classic plot: a group of characters gather for a celebration in a remote location and one of them is intent on murder. It’s a slow build-up that has a page-turning quality that I really enjoyed.

Wow, I LOVE your three picks Rachel. You’ve chosen some of my favourite books of the year! I’m so pleased you loved these books too.

About Her Deadly Friend (Gleveham Killers Suspense Series #1):
The Suspect
Bullied by Steph Lewis at school, then betrayed by her lover, Amy Ashby still seethes with fury. Despite the decades-old resentment, she’s on the hunt for a new man and a fresh start. This time for keeps.

The Stalker
When Steph and Amy are stalked by a figure from their shared past, danger threatens.

The Detective
Now Detective Inspector, Steph follows a tip-off to her old rival. After quarrels exploded beyond the playground and changed lives forever, she vowed never to see Amy again. But that was then.

The Deaths
Murder rocks the city. First one, then another. The body count reaches five, and all Steph’s leads point to Amy. But is Steph obsessed with a schoolgirl vendetta or closing in on a deadly killer?

Sadly submissions for #R3COMM3D3D2022 are now closed. Shortly after the last post I will be inviting you to attend the virtual after-show party, which should be fun. We’ll get to gaze upon the marvellous and majestic beauty of 2022’s books and also crown 2022’s winner, if we have one (they’re all winners, right?). Until then stay tuned as we have lots more bookish gorgeousness heading your way throughout November.
