#TopTenTuesday | 18th February 2025: Books I Loved But Never Reviewed #Top10Tuesday #bookblogger #bookish #amreading #TTT #BookTwitter #booktwt #BookX #BookSky #damppebbles

Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at dp. My original plan was to participate as and when I had the time to put a post together. That then turned into posting ‘weekly without fail’ until I was forced to take a break following surgery to both shoulders (that recovery happened to coincide with a complete and utter loss of reading and blogging mojo 🤷🏻‍♀️). But now I’m back and I’m going to take a much more chilled approach to all things bookish. Which means TTT will return to being a regular feature on damppebbles but a ‘no pressure’ one (that’s the plan anyway!).

The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. Just make sure you link back to Jana’s post every week. If you don’t have a blog then no problem, just add your list to the comments below.

This week’s theme is a Books I Never Reviewed (Share the titles of books you never reviewed on your blog/tiktok/insta/etc. and if you liked them or not!) which I’ve changed to Books I Loved But Never Reviewed. Here’s a big, fat disclaimer before we go any further with this one. I am not a fan of giving overly negative reviews of books I didn’t enjoy. If I do review a book I wasn’t keen on, I will be careful with the way I phrase things, find the elements I did enjoy rather than focussing on the things I didn’t. That said, I do (unlike some bloggers) review books that didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I will not openly slate a book or series. After all, I’m not a writer and I can’t imagine the amount of blood, sweat and tears that goes into producing a novel. Those ‘ten worst books I read last year’ lists just aren’t for me. They’re not my thing. If they’re yours then fair enough, but you won’t see a list like that here on damppebbles. Each to their own. There are a million reasons why occasionally I don’t review books I’ve read on the blog. Sometimes I read a book just for the pleasure of it; no note taking, no putting the bones of my review together in my head as I read. Sometimes, I just fall behind with my blogging – there were a few of these in 2023 which is why I am determined to catch up and review everything I read in 2024 despite my unplanned hiatus. And sometimes I’m just not keen on the book and can’t find the words to describe how I felt. With all of the above in mind, I can promise you the books on my list this week are all books I enjoyed. In fact, a lot of the author’s I’m going to include are some of my favourite authors. I just didn’t, for whatever reason, review these books!

1. The Wrong Hands by Mark Billingham

2. The Party Season by SJI Holliday

3. It Ends at Midnight by Harriet Tyce

4. Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent

5. S.T.A.G.S. by M.A. Bennett

6. Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda

7. The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix

8. Gallery of the Dead by Chris Carter

9. Changeling by Matt Wesolowski

10. The Last Final Girl by Stephen Graham Jones

Thank goodness for Goodreads which made it easy to see what I’ve read against what I’ve reviewed! As I mentioned before, a good number of the authors above, I include in my ‘favourite authors’ list. I loved every single one of these books (which I either purchased, borrowed from the library or borrowed from Kindle Unlimited). Please do check them out, they’re well worth a read.

[As a side note, there does seem to be a strong yellow, black and red feel about a lot of these books 🤔]

Have you read any of these books? Are there any on my list that take your fancy? Do you try to review everything you read? Or do you just sometimes read for the fun of it? Are you taking part in Top Ten Tuesday this week? Let me know in the comments.

So there we have it! If you fancy joining in next week then head on over to That Artsy Reader Girl’s blog to find out what the next topic is!

  1. Same. My goal is to promote books, not slam them completely. I’m always honest about what I did/didn’t like and I never claim to have enjoyed a book when I didn’t, but I do try to keep my reviews balanced instead of hyperfocusing on the negative. Like you, I don’t waste time on lists of worst books – that’s not productive in my mind.

THE SOUTHERN BOOK CLUB’S GUIDE TO SLAYING VAMPIRES is the only book I’ve read from your list. I enjoyed it too.

    Happy TTT!

  2. I haven’t read any of these books, but most are ones that I would enjoy. Which may seem weird considering I do like mysteries. Like you, I find it hard writing a review for a book I didn’t like. But I do like sharing my feelings about what didn’t work for me. I’ve actually had a couple of ARCs this year that I thought I would love that didn’t quite work for me.
