#TopTenTuesday | 20th May 2025: Ten Destination Thrillers I LOVE #Top10Tuesday #bookblogger #bookish #amreading #TTT #BookTwitter #booktwt #BookX #BookSky #damppebbles

Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at damppebbles. Add a little bit of variety to our bookish weeks.

The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. Just make sure you link back to Jana’s post every week. If you don’t have a blog then no problem, just add your list to the comments below.

This week’s theme is Books that Feature Travel. Yikes! That was the first word that sprang to mind when I saw this week’s theme. I’m still thinking it as I begin to type this introduction. Double yikes! I find with the books I choose, quite often that there isn’t a lot of travel. I prefer crime fiction set in small towns, be they Australian or American. The town can sometimes become as important to the narrative as the main characters are though. Ah! But then I also love a destination thriller (funnily enough I’m actually reviewing one on the blog today alongside this TTT post so please make sure you check that out!). Surely that’s got to be the direction I take this week’s theme, right? It’s decided. I’m going to tweak this week’s prompt slightly and share Ten Destination Thrillers I LOVE. (There’s every chance this could be a list that features an awful lot of Lucy Clarke’s books…)

1. The Guests by Nikki Smith

2. The Island by Catherine Cooper

3. The Resort by Sara Ochs
When I first reviewed this book it was called The Dive. It’s the same book but with a bit of a makeover!

4. The Hike by Lucy Clarke

5. Shiver by Allie Reynolds

6. The Villa by Ruth Kelly

7. The Contest by Karen Hamilton

8. Breathless by Amy McCulloch

9. The White Road by Sarah Lotz
This is one of my all-time favourite books and no one else has read it (or so it feels!). Please, please, please, if you’re a fan of thrillers, please get hold of a copy of this book. I would love to know what you think of it.

10. One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke
I did jokingly promise you a list of ten Lucy Clarke books. Out of all of the destination thriller authors I’ve read, Lucy Clarke is probably the author I’ve read the most. I’m ending this list with my favourite book by Clarke. Despite being the second book by this author to feature 🤭

Was I scrapping the bottom of the barrel a little at the end there? Yes, yes I was. One of the Girls really does deserve a place on this list though. Had I allowed myself to feature books by authors I’d already mentioned, it would have been a lot easier to compile this particular list. All great books by authors I return to time and time again. And just in time for summer! Or….maybe winter!

Have you read any of these books? Are you also a Lucy Clarke fan like me? Do you enjoy a destination thriller? What would you recommend? I’m always on the lookout for new authors and books. Are you taking part in Top Ten Tuesday this week? Let me know in the comments.

So there we have it! If you fancy joining in next week then head on over to That Artsy Reader Girl’s blog to find out what the next topic is!
