Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at damppebbles. Add a little bit of variety to our bookish weeks.
The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. This week’s theme is an Indie Freebie (this topic encompasses a lot: your favourite indie bookstores, indie books, indie authors, indie publishers/presses, indie books on your to-read list, indie authors I read before they became traditionally published, etc. submitted by @dark.shelf.of.wonders and Books Are The New Black). So, I have a confession. I don’t read a lot by indie authors/publishers. I used to. I won’t go into the long and boring details because no one is interested. I just don’t anymore. The question remains, what am I going to do with today’s list? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read some great indie fiction over the years. So here’s Ten Underrated Indie Books You Need on Your Radar…

4. Dancers in the Wind by Anne Coates (Urban Fox Books)
5. After He’s Gone by Jane Isaac (self-published)
This book doesn’t belong on this list because it doesn’t really exist in this format any more. It was originally self-published by the author, which was when I reviewed it for the blog. It was then picked up by Head of Zeus (who used to be an indie publisher themselves but are now under the Bloomsbury umbrella — please correct me if this is wrong). Anyhoo, it was given an updated cover and an updated title. It’s now called The Other Woman. Can you tell I’m struggling here. We’re only up to five!

Pshaw! (For the Wordle fans 😂🤣). That was TOUGH! I really struggled to find indie titles for this list. REALLY STRUGGLED! Some of the ones I found (like the Jane Isaac one) have been republished by bigger publishers. (Didn’t stop me from including After He’s Gone though, did it!) I’ve read a lot of books from houses like Orenda Books but restricted myself to one book per publisher (for some unknown, stupid reason). Anyhoo, did you do better than me?
