#R3COMM3ND3D2020 with #BookBlogger Anjana (@superfluousread) #SuperfluousReading #damppebbles #BookRecommendations #publishedin2020

Hello bookish friends and welcome to the start of the weekend on damppebbles. Today I am delighted to welcome another brilliant book blogger to share their three #R3COMM3ND3D2020 picks with us. Joining me today is a blogger who I met thanks to #R3COMM3ND3D2019, the lovely Anjana of Superfluous Reading. Make sure you give her a follow if you don’t already!

So, what is #R3COMM3ND3D2020? It’s about sharing the book love. It’s a chance for authors, book bloggers and bookstagrammers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2020. To make things interesting I have added a couple of teeny, tiny rules this year which are; 1) the book must have first been published in 2020 and 2) special editions and reissues do not count. I like to keep you lovely people on your toes. πŸ˜‰

Here are Anjana’s three #R3COMM3ND3D2020 picks…

R3C20 Hotel du jack

Hotel du Jack and Other Stories by Dan Brotzel
I am normally not a fan of short stories but these got progressively better. They are strange, varied and even thought-provoking. Some stories are obviously better than others but overall is a pretty great collection.

R3C20 radical spirits

Radical Spirits by Nandini Patwardhan
This is a non-fiction about an Indian doctor I knew next to nothing about. I like the tone of the narration that talks about the customs of older times with that framework in mind and the author’s own emotions do not come into the narration. The latter part rarely happens which makes its content quite fascinating.

R3C20 the newspaper club

The Newspaper Club by Beth Vrabel
Finally, I have a young adult/middle grade read. I loved all the characters in this and cannot wait for the next in the series. The writing is straightforward but well done.

Thanks for your great recommendations, Anjana. All three titles look really intriguing!

About Anjana:
I have been blogging for (almost) 3 years and I really enjoyed participating in this last year. I love the variety that it brings forward. I read a variety of random genres and it is hard for me to limit my suggestions to three. I therefore, picked books with less than a hundred ratings on goodreads from the ones I did like.
