Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Friday! The weekend is within touching distance and we can all thank Crunchie for that (one for the oldies perhaps…?). It’s also day 11 of #R3COMM3ND3D2022 and I am loving how this year’s #R3C is shaping up! So far we’ve had thirty unique book recommendations with no clear leader. BUT we’re only eleven days in and there is plenty of time for that to change!

Joining me today to talk all things #R3COMM3ND3D is the fabulous Pernille Hughes, author of Ten Years. I have seen Ten Years everywhere since it was published in September and the love for it from the online book community has been vast. With the publisher describing the book as ‘The most heartwarming and gripping love story you’ll read this year!’ and reviewers falling head over heels in love with Becca and Charlie, it’s definitely one to add to your shelf! I’ve got my copy, have you got yours?

So, what is #R3COMM3ND3D2022? It’s about sharing the book love. It’s a chance for authors, book bloggers, reviewers and bookstagrammers to shout about three (yes, *only* three) books they love. They can be written by any author, in any genre and published in any way (traditionally, indie press or self-published). But there is a catch. All three books must have been published in 2022. To make things interesting there are a couple of teeny, tiny rules; 1) the book must have FIRST been published in 2022 and 2) special editions and reissues do not count. I like to keep you lovely people on your toes 😉

Here are the three books Pernille recommends…

The No-Show by Beth O’Leary
It just blew me away. The writing, the plot, the structure. It’s totally brilliant and the kind of book that makes me think ‘I wish I’d written this’, while reading it, and then when I’ve finished it feel I might as well pack up my own laptop. (It’s a writer’s thing.)

The Staycation by Cressida McLaughlin
I read a lot of American romcoms, I could have listed Ali Hazelwood’s Love on The Brain, or Christina Lauren’s Something Wilder, both of which I’ve 100% loved this year. These books are getting a load of attention in the UK bookshops, on their ‘love stories’ tables. But I wanted to showcase this one, The Staycation, as it is an example of UK writers writing cracking, funny, sassy RomComs too.

The Change by Kirsten Miller
A non-romcom, for something different, but a book I found just so PLEASING to read. I think I read it with a manic grin on my face. It flipped a lot of my peri-menopausal switches, while also thrilling me with its twisty plot.

Three absolutely gorgeous choices, thank you so much Pernille! I have The Change on my TBR and I’m really looking forward to reading it.

About Ten Years:

‘Some days I feel like I’ve lived more than one lifetime, so, couldn’t we be right for each other this time around?’
Becca and Charlie have known each other since university.
Becca and Charlie have also hated each other since university.

Until now. Until Ally’s bucket list. The death of their loved one should mean they can go their separate ways and not look back. But completing the list is something neither of them can walk away from.

And sometimes, those who bring out the worst in you, also bring out the very best…

Over the course of ten years, Becca and Charlie’s paths collide as they deal with grief, love and life after Ally.
Not since Emma and Dex in One Day and Will and Lou in Me Before You will you root for a couple as much.

About Pernille Hughes:
Before she moved to writing full-time, Pernille Hughes studied Film & Literature at university. After she graduated she went on to market Natural History films before working in Children’s television, which meant living in actual Teletubbyland for a while! From 2011–2015, she was a regular contributor for The Sunday Times column ‘Confessions of a Tourist’. She’s had three romance novels published to date – Ten Years, Probably the Best Kiss in the World and Punch-Drunk Love (previously Sweatpants At Tiffanie’s).

Pernille lives in Buckinghamshire, England and while the kids are at school she scoffs cake and writes stories in order to maintain a shred of sanity. www.pernillehughes.com (Free short story here!)

Sadly submissions for #R3COMM3D3D2022 are now closed. Shortly after the last post I will be inviting you to attend the virtual after-show party, which should be fun. We’ll get to gaze upon the marvellous and majestic beauty of 2022’s books and also crown 2022’s winner, if we have one (they’re all winners, right?). Until then stay tuned as we have lots more bookish gorgeousness heading your way throughout November.
