Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at damppebbles. Add a little bit of variety to our bookish weeks.
The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. Just make sure you link back to Jana’s post every week. If you don’t have a blog then no problem, just add your list to the comments below.
This week’s theme is Books with Springy Covers (pastel colours, flowers, baby animals, sunshine, etc.).
😐⬅️ My face right now. You may wonder what the face is all about so please allow me to explain. I read crime fiction, murder mysteries, suspense, psychological thrillers and a smattering of horror thrown in for good measure. My tastes in literature are on the darker side. Spring is not dark (unless you live in the UK like me where the weather tends to be dark and dreary MOST of the year). Spring is light and fluffy, with lambs gambolling across fresh green fields. Spring takes you to pastel colours, flowers, baby animals, sunshine, etc. I’m really not sure how this is going to go…
I tried. I really did. I made a start. Had the best intentions. Found one book (which incidentally has the word ‘Spring’ in the title) and then, despite trawling through all of my shelves plus my Goodreads shelf, which goes back years, couldn’t find any more. Not a sausage!
So I’m changing things up. I’m going to use a topic from the archives again 😔. A subject very close to my heart: Hidden Gems. The books that deserve so much more attention than they initially received. All of these books have received under 1000 reviews on ‘you know where’. The majority of them have under 500 reviews. (A lot of them have under 100 reviews which is such a shame as they’re all so good!)
1. The Wrong Child by Barry Gornell
2. Nasty Little Cuts by Tina Baker
3. The Graveyard Shift by Maria Lewis
5. The Good Daughter by Laure Van Rensburg
6. Black Lake Manor by Guy Morpuss
7. The Disciple by Stephen Lloyd Jones
8. The White Road by Sarah Lotz
10. Brothers in Blood by Amer Anwar
I love every single book on this list. Some were published by one of the big five publishers. Some weren’t. They’re all BRILLIANT now matter how they came about and deserve much more appreciation, more time in the limelight than I think they’ve had.
Have you read any of these books? Are there any on my list that take your fancy? What book is your number one hidden gem? The one you always include when asked for recommendations? Are you taking part in Top Ten Tuesday this week? Let me know in the comments.
So there we have it! If you fancy joining in next week then head on over to That Artsy Reader Girl’s blog to find out what the next topic is!

Not surprised you struggled with this one! 😂

I tried so hard! The cover I found that had ‘Spring’ in the title wasn’t particularly Springy, truth be told! 🙈😂

Good for you for picking a theme that actually works for you! I wondered if you might struggle with this one. 🙂

The fact that you struggled with Spring covers does not surprise me, Emma. I like lists like this as I’m always intrigued by those underappreciated books. I am going to check these out and see which ones appeal to me and if I can find them.

I had the exact same problem! Hahaha. I do like your pivot, however, and will be checking out a lot of these books!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

I had the exact same thought! But I love your pivot and will be checking out a lot of the books listed.
(And I hope this isn’t a duplicate comment, WordPress is coughing up a hairball every time I try and comment today.)

While I’ve never heard of these books, that doesn’t surprise me given they’ve received so little attention. While these genres may not be my preferred cup of tea, several of these books may be my daughter’s as as such I should give them a look.

HAHA as a fan of true crime and suspense/thrillers too, I found your dilemma hilarious. They don’t really come in springy colors so often haha My TTT

Great post! I love how I can always come to your page and find at least one awesome read, even if it makes me add to a TBR that’s already impossible to get through in one lifetime. Knowing that all of these are books that you’ve read and loved makes it easier to add them. I hope this isn’t a duplicate comment – my first one wouldn’t go through.
