#TopTenTuesday | 18th August 2026: Book Series I Want to Catch Up On #Top10Tuesday #bookblogger #bookish #amreading #TTT #BookTwitter #booktwt #BookSky #damppebbles

Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at damppebbles. Add a little bit of variety to our bookish weeks.

The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. Just make sure you link back to Jana’s post every week. If you don’t have a blog, then no problem, just add your list to the comments below.

This week’s theme is Book Series I Want to Catch Up On (or series you’d like to start). Finally, a theme that feels a little more in my wheelhouse than some of the others. The books I love tend to be published as part of a series. I’m talking mainly about the police procedurals here. They’re my bread and butter as a reader, what I turn to time and time again, and I love it when I find a really engaging, character and plot driven series that I can get my teeth into. Knowing that you’re in for the long haul (and some of the detective series on my radar are well into double digits!). Looking forward to this one…

1. DI Kim Stone Series by Angela Marsons
I’ve read: Silent Scream (book 1)
Evil Games (book 2)
Play Dead (book 4)
Blood Lines (book 5)
How I managed to miss the third book and then stop at book five, I have no idea! What I’ve read of this series has been excellent but it’s currently up to book twenty-three (plus a novella), so I have a lot of catching up to do!

2. DI Tom Thorne Series by Mark Billingham
I’ve read: Sleepyhead (book 1)
Scaredy Cat (book 2)
Lazy Bones (book 3)
The Burning Girl (book 4)
Lifeless (book 5)
Buried (book 6)
Death Message (book 7)
Bloodline (book 8)
From the Dead (book 9)
Good as Dead (book 10)
The Dying Hours (book 11)
The Bones Beneath (book 12)

I actually managed to read these in the correct order! All of these were read before I started the blog so no reviews to share this time. By my reckoning, I’m seven books behind plus Thorne at Christmas (which sounds fun!).

3. Robert Hunter Series by Chris Carter
I’ve read: The Hunter (book 0.5)
The Crucifix Killer (book 1)
The Executioner (book 2)
The Night Stalker (book 3)
The Death Sculptor (book 4)
One by One (book 5)
An Evil Mind (book 6)
I Am Death (book 7)
The Caller (book 8)
Gallery of the Dead (book 9)
Hunting Evil (book 10)
Written in Blood (book 11)

So far, this is the series I am most up to date with. I’m only missing two books. Plus of course the brand new standalone from the author which has nothing to do with his established series but a book I really, REALLY want to read!

4. Grant County/Will Trent Series by Karin Slaughter
Before I start, I need to tell you that this series/these two series really confuse me. I started reading the Sara Linton series (that’s what I thought it was called but it’s referred to as Grant County everywhere I look!) years ago when they were first published. Sara was the main character, then Will rocked up and now he has his own series. Where does one end and the other begins (no spoilers please!).
Grant County I’ve read: Blindsighted (book 1)
Kisscut (book 2)
A Faint Cold Fear (book 3) – I think I’ve read this one anyway!
Indelible (book 4)
Skin Privilege (book 5)
**Genesis (book 7)

Will Trent I’ve read: Fractured (book 2)
**Genesis (book 3) – this book is part of both series. Can you see why I’m so confused?!
Broken (book 4)
The Last Widow (book 9)

I give up! I’ve realised as well that I can add the Andrea Oliver duology to this list too!
Andrea Oliver I’ve read: Girl, Forgotten (book 2)
All over the flipping place! The good news is that I’ve started Slaughter’s new North Falls series at the beginning and I am keeping my eyes peeled for when new books are released. Hopefully I can keep up to date with that series. It’s exhausting being a reader 😂

5. DI Ryan Wilkins Series by Simon Mason
This is my new favourite series and I’ve only read the first book, which means I have another four to get stuck into. Yay!
I’ve read: A Killing in November (book 1)

6. Detective Bernadette Noel Series by Joy Kluver
I’ve read: Last Seen (book 1)
Broken Girls (book 2)
There are another two books in this series which I still have to read. Really looking forward to them.

7. Kate Marshall Series by Robert Bryndza
I’ve read: Nine Elms (book 1)
Devil’s Way (book 4)
The Lost Victim (book 5)
I love this author’s books but somehow I missed out on starting this particular series when it was first released. Then, when Rob became an indie published author, he started to send me ARCs. So the first book I read in this series was Devil’s Way, which is book four. I loved the set-up for Kate’s character so much that I had to go back and start at the beginning. So I’ve read these books in the following, messy order: book four, book five and book one! I will get round to book two and three soon. I hope…

8. DI Caius Beauchamp Series by Charlotte Vassell
I’ve read: The In Crowd (book 2)
I LOVED the lead detective in this book so much that I vowed to read the entire series in one sitting. That sadly didn’t happen but I am looking forward to reading book 1 and books 3 and 4. It seems a new book in this series is being published every year so I need to get my skates on before I fall too far behind!

9. PI Lane Holland Series by Shelley Burr
I’ve read: Wake (book 1)
Murder Town (book 2)
There’s a mysterious third book in this series which I cannot seem to pin down. I think it was published a while ago in Australia but it’s taken aaaaggggeeeess to make it to the UK. It says it’s being published later this month in paperback but we’ll see. I can’t quite seem to get hold of a copy…..

10. DS Walker Series by Patricia Wolf
I’ve read: Outback (book 1)
Paradise (book 2)
I loved the first book in this series. Really enjoyed the second book. And then totally missed when books three, four and five were published. I think I’ve said before that I’m not able to keep up with what’s coming out and when. I think this just goes to prove it.

I could have included many more series on this list. There are SO MANY that I’ve started (either properly, at the beginning, or as a rebel rule-breaker, part-way through! 🙈) and still need to finish. What’s your favourite crime series? Sharing is caring, after all! It’s about time I made a start on another series I probably won’t finish 🤣 Have you read any of these books? Planning on reading any? Are you taking part in Top Ten Tuesday this week? Let me know in the comments.

So there we have it! If you fancy joining in next week then head on over to That Artsy Reader Girl’s blog to find out what the next theme is!

  1. The Grant County series consists of these six books :

    1. Blindsighted
    2. Kisscut
    3. A Faint Cold Fear
    4. Indelible
    5. Faithless
    6. Beyond Reach (also known as Skin Privilege)

That’s when that series ended. Then Slaughter moved on to the first Will Trent, which was a crossover between the two. That’s Genesis (Undone in the USA). Then the other Trent books followed over the years.

    Hope that helps.
