Hello and a very warm welcome to damppebbles. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I’ve decided to take part in That Artsy Reader Girl’s Top Ten Tuesday meme to mix things up a little here at damppebbles. Add a little bit of variety to our bookish weeks.
The meme was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but has lived with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. It was created to encompass a love of books, of lists and to bring readers together. If you would also like to take part then you’re very welcome: the more, the merrier. This week’s theme is a Cover Freebie so I have free rein to create a list based on my own personal whims, yay! I’ve decided to go with Ten Covers I Would Frame as Artwork because a lot of work goes into cover design and despite what we all say, they do influence us. We pretty much ALL judge a book by its cover to some degree. Here goes…

Reading the darker side of fiction could only result in the covers selected having a darker edge to them, so I’m not surprised by the tone of this list, are you?! 😂 These are all great books. A couple of them, I’ve selected the hardback edition of the cover rather than the paperback. I do sometimes feel that hardbacks can be a little more daring/interesting with their designs while the paperbacks have to have broader appeal. What do you think? Have you read any of these books? While not my typical genres, these covers all have eye appeal. And you’re right, we do look at the cover when deciding to pick up a book.

I’ve only read two of these but agree the covers are memorable. When I worked in publishing, my favorite (and least favorite) was the hour on Thursdays where we argued about the art for book covers and the publisher abused our poor art director! I remember when Amazon first appeared on the scene, we stopped doing white backgrounds for a while because they didn’t “pop”!

I love the bright colors and the initial vibes of all the books, but the closer you look they are all pretty dark covers! Which is definitely a cool aesthetic but not one I would choose for my own house 😂 Great topic choice!
